Outline the story …
Entry inspired by Lady Anne of Moy, from Midnight Honour by Marsha Canham. The year was 1745. It was a perilous time in the Highlands of Jacobite Scotland. Lady Anne of Moy thought she had all that she desired in her strong and handsome husband, Angus Moy, the chief of Clan Chattan. A bonnie prince from across the sea landed on their shores in desperate need of soldiers to support his cause of putting a Stewart king back on the throne.
Anne was swept up into the excitement and vowed to provide soldiers for Prince Charles Jacobite army. It was rumoured that Anne and the handsome clan chief of the MacGillivray's, Captain John MacGillivray, were attracted to each other. He'd given his complete support to the Jacobite cause throwing the two together in their love for the prince. Angus had chosen the side of the English Hanoverians, a fact that he'd tried to keep from Anne. War was raging and he knew that keeping his beloved bride meant he'd have to make some hard decisions. His vow to the English crown or his vow to protect his beloved headstrong Anne.
Outline the construction…
During winter and early spring in the Highlands of Scotland, the weather would've been cold and wet. Thus prompting me to choose the green Gaby Wool as the foundation to my 18th century military riding habit. Riding throughout the Scottish countryside, recruiting soldiers for Bonnie Prince Charlie, she would need the warmth a sturdy yet pliable wool. The real Colonel Anne married the chief of the Mackintoshes, so I wanted to incorporate that tartan into my outfit.
The inside of the habit outer coat and waist coat are lined with a taffeta lining, giving it a wee bit more warmth. The petticoat is made from the same Gaby wool as the outer coat. I used the typical box pleat in the center, continuing on with knife pleats towards the split at the sides so I'd have access to the pockets underneath. Given the rank of Colonel, I definitely wanted to bring that forward by creating a military style habit. And because I'm a soldier in the United States Army, my own Easter egg is using modern US Army metal buttons.
In the past, I've had difficulty making set in pockets, so I chose to have the pocket flaps be there for decoration only. I already had the pockets underneath my petticoat so the need for the ones in the coat seemed superfluous.
I completed her outfit by sewing a white cockade based on the one that Lord Murray wore and placed on her tricorn.

Gosh Annie, this ensemble is fricking amazing! I love that you incorporated the tartan and the beautiful wool colour, and the gold braid details look great.
