Outline the story …

The intent with this design was to take the world of the Witcher novels and depict them more accurately to the history they're based on. I wanted the design to show Jaskier, a bard descended from noblemen, as a person who came from wealth, with rich purples and a mixture of fabric.

I also wanted to show the fact that the books take place in a fantasy form of medieval Poland as many depictions of this character tend to take a more western inspiration and design Jaskier more so based on Italian renaissance fashion.

Outline the construction…

This project was my first time working without a paper pattern. The torso portion of the coat was based on a pattern found online that I copied and adapted to fit me. The upper part of the sleeves were done with a Simplicity sleeve pattern that I also ended up altering to get the desired fit. The collar and lower portions of the sleeves were entirely designed by myself.
When sewing, I did the construction of the torso part and the straight seams of the sleeves on machine. Another part that was a first for me was the use of hand sewing. To attach and hem the sleeves I decided to hand sew them as it provided me with the most control. When I attached the sleeves, I used a back stitch to give the sleeves extra strength while using a whip stitch to do the hemming.

Very well thought color palette. I really like how puffy the sleeves are and how well that turned out with the hand sawn part. Very well done! Wish you all the best for the competition!

Such a cohesive look from a combination of different patterns! Nicely put together, and entirely wearable! I also appreciate how you aimed to take the styling in a different direction than many others have for the character.

The fabrics chosen and the style really capture the essence of the character – I knew exactly who it was the moment I laid eyes on the picture. Great concept!
