Outline the story …

When I saw the competition's theme, I immediately thought about my favourite tale, Lewis Carrol's "Alice in Wonderland". Even if it's harder to be original with a very well-known story such as Alice's, I just had to try, for this tale is magical! So 'Once upon a time', I created a very special dress, alive with references to Alice's world. I wanted it to be a 'story-like' dress, as peculiar as Lewis Carrol's story.

It had to be blue, of course, as Alice's is. I choose a pure, dreamy, sky blue, in a soft velvet. On the corset, white and red roses are blooming, reminder of the Red Queen's flower issue. Butterflies, like jewels, completes the decorum, tribute to Absolem and, also, to my brand, Chrysea, inspire by the butterfly's chrysalis. Of course, it was impossible to skip the Mad Hatter or the Cheshire Cat ... so I add the small top hat and stripped tights. And, to perfect the outfit, I made a unique jewelry with card and keys, two very important symbols in Alice's world.

Outline the construction…

The corset was made from a basis I work during my workshop with Atelier Sylphe. I need to improve quite a lot as my measurements move since this workshop. I realize a mockup and I correct to fit on my actual body. The modifications were essentially on the breast.
After making the final mockup, I begin the final clothes by making the corset. I used for the second time a unusual technical of assembling for me. This method seems quite appropriate for working with velvet. I first realize the layer of coutil with the bone casing on the seam open. This is a singler layer and on it I sew the layer of velvet by hand on it. It must be useful to precise that was my first time with velvet for a corset. This is not easy to work with! For the rest of the clothes, it was a first time with the tulle fabric to make a petticoat. I am quite happy with the result. I love the volume given to the satin fabric of the skirt. This was also my first time with the satin fabric.

The competition was a great challenge for me as I used a lot of new technics and new fabrics. This was the opportunity to test a lot of new thing and ameliorate my level.

That’s a really nice fantasy Alice and your Corset looks like it fits like a glove. It’s one of my favorite stories and I think you translated it beautifully into a trippy-fantasy costume ❤️
