Violent Roses
Outline the story …
The inspiration for our piece was a short story of Dark Sarah. The particular moment we chose is the song/poem, Violent Roses, by Dark Sarah. The story of Sarah turning dark and destroying her beloved garden to leave just the deadliest and ugliest plants standing.
The idea of all the roses being torn and scattered all over the garden became the main inspiration and that turned out to be the rose petal ombre on the tulle skirt. The harsh spiky lines of the corset bring out the darkness inside Sarah. The headpiece has the deadly plants tied in with the roses. To add some more dark and witchy vibes we added the floaty sleeve-like arm pieces.
Our style has always been dark, dramatic and gothic and this piece is exactly that. As is the song/poem, too.
Outline the construction…
The outfit has 3 main pieces: corset, tulle skirt with all the rose petals and the headpiece. Additional pieces are the lace choker and the floaty silk chiffon sleeve thingies, tied to wrists with the same lace we used in the corset and the choker. The corset has 3 layers: the silk was first interlined and then roll pinned to the coutil strength layer. After that they were treated as a one. The lining is floating and done in red cotton. The binding was made from the same silk and it's hand finished on the inside for smooth finish. Internal boning channels were made with twill tape and the corset is boned with spiral and flat steel boning. Lace appliqués were layered using two different kinds of lace. Dark red chantilly was dyed to match, the black corded lace is hand beaded. To add some sparkle we added red and black crystals.
The circle skirt is made with 5 layers of soft tulle and the overskirt with all the petals is 1,5 circle with a small train. All the petals were sewn individually. Finding the petals turned out to be an impossible task so we ended up dyeing the petals with iDye poly. As a base for head piece we used a stem from a fake rose and then added all the flowers and plants. These roses were also dyed. Ivies were spraypainted darker and blue pearls represent belladonna.

Love all your textual layering. It really adds fantastic dimension.
Thank you! Took a while to work all that out.
This is really beautifully dark and foreboding. I love the ombré petals.
Thank you!! The petals were a sudden idea that turned out to be kinda cool.
Wonderful! I love the hues that were chosen; they compliment well. 🙂
Thank you!!
This is fantastic, beautiful work! I especially love all the petals on the skirt.
Thank you! Glad to hear you love the petals, they were such a pain in the backside to work with. But it was worth it. Now we just need someone to count how many (too many) petals were actually sewn in the skirt.
Very striking! I love the black with hints of dark red, and the rose petal details just add a perfect touch to this dark and mysterious outfit! Well done!
What a gothic fantasy!! 🥰 Beautiful corset. Wonderful balance between the black and red, and the gradient on the skirt is superbly done.
