Outline the story …

Little Red Riding Hood was sent through the woods with some goodies for her grandmother. Though she was warned to stick to the path a clever wolf convinces her to stray deeper into the woods to pick some flowers to take to her dear grandmother. While she is distracted the wolf hurries on to the grandmother's house where he promptly gobbles her up and puts on her nightgown to await Little Red's arrival. When she finally arrives the wolf ends up eating her too then falls asleep. Both Little Red and her Grandmother are saved by the local huntsman. My inspiration came from a makeup idea by Nadine Mayerhofer, of what Little Red Riding hood might have looked like after an encounter with the wolf's claws-and so I went in search of some red velvet and some woods.

Outline the construction…

The pattern was the biggest challenge for this project. I knew that I wanted a shorter, elbow-length caplet with a large draping hood. I used online resources to get an idea of what hood shapes look like for patterns and split and spread my pattern piece before taking some spare fabric to make a mock up. My mock up turned out very well and made the final very enjoyable to sew. For the dress I found a mix of fabrics that I loved the look of, and I attempted to use an existing bodice pattern and attach a pleated skirt. This was my first time sewing boning and I wish I would have done a mock up for the bodice as well. After sewing, unpicking, and re sewing several times I finally came out with a dress that worked well and gave me ideas for my next dress with boning.
