The Herald
Outline the story …
For my entry, I chose the book; The Slave Girl.
I wrote it myself, and its two sequels. Within the pages lies a pivotal character; The Herald. A majestic dragon, shimmering, perfectly camouflaged against the sky, moving like a cloud against the wind.
For this dragon, I wanted something different to the usual Western dragons; fire breathing, big wings, long claws. The Herald is influenced by Far Eastern dragons; more eel-like, with long bodies, no limbs or wings. The Herald dispenses justice upon the villain of the story, using the monstrously barbed tip of his tail.
Outline the construction…
I made the bodice from recycled jeans denim and silver satin, used zip ties as boning to give strength to the eyelets, which I hand-stitched. Each satin piece of the bodice was flat lined to the denim lining, then whip stitched together into the finished garment. Corresponding bias binding added a nice pop of colour.
The skirt came from a recycled bed sheet, I used a ruler to create box pleats and added a waistband with hook and eye closures.
The apron is random fabric that I bought from a thrift shop. I cut it into a rectangle that wrapped around my waist, hemmed the three edges and stitch a channel for the ribbon tie.
I made horns from more denim and satin, with zip tie supports. Unfortunately, they wouldn't stay on my head and so are not in the final photos, but they do feature in my blog.
Reusing jeans is such a great idea! I’ve done it myself and I always like the results! The pop of teal was a really nice idea, too. 🙂
Love that piece! And the use you made of old jeans, good job♡
