The Dread of the Unfinished
Outline the story …
Since the announcement of the theme I was very eager to find a book that I wanted to bring to life. I was also wanting to explore more medieval techniques, so I decided to use "The Little Flower King", one of my favorite child books as reference. The book has no indication of which period the king is, so my idea was to search for medieval inspiration. In that moment I also found a meter of red linen in an accessible price (linen is very expensive in Brazil). So there I had it, a meter of a perfect color linen and the challenge to make a garment with only one meter of fabric. I decided to adapt a medieval style garment to an modern outfit that could be made with only one meter of fabric. My choice was to use the "supportive smock" style and transform it in a nice summer dress that I could use today, but made with medieval tecniques. The length of the dress would be determined by the fabric I had. And them life happened and I was, 18 hours before the deadline, trying to finish another toile before I cut my precious linen. As you can guess, the garment is unfinished. I decided to do a version in cotton that I had at home and at least have something to send Its unfinished, the fitting is not perfect. But I am so happy I managed to send something and be ok with not being perfect.
Outline the construction…
I self patterned the dress on myself in a process my friends called "auto-moulage". I sew it all on my grandmother pedal machine and pinned it where the seams were falling off.
Pretty dress!
So cute!
It takes courage to submit an unfinished thing, and a lot of creativity to get a complete garment out of one metre of fabric. You did well!
The dress is super cute and it is great that you managed to do it with only one meter of fabric!
Congrats on submitting your entry! I love the shape of your dress♡
Unfinished it maybe but so full of potential! Please let us know when you do the linen version because it will be truly gorgeous! Especially if its red! Well done for submitting it!
Well done for submitting it anyway! You’ve obviously put a lot of hard work into planning the dress, and I’m sure it will pay off and look beautiful when it is finished!
