Outline the story …

I used a dreamy, love theme for this corset. I was scrolling Instagram and came across a doodle a friend had drawn of a girl with an arrow shot through her. It immediately gave me the inspiration for this piece. I wanted to focus on my construction and pattern making abilities, so I went with a simple bodysuit corset with a lot of detail on top of the completed garment.

Outline the construction…

I started by making an overbust corset pattern. I used my pattern making book to lead me in adjusting the pattern to be a full bodysuit. Before cutting, I fused my cotton back satin to cotton interfacing. I used the roll pinning technique to baste the fashion layer to the coutil layer. After sewing the seams together, I pressed the seams towards the back and used the seams as bone casings. I used spiral steel and flat steel as the bones. The top and bottom edges are bound with the fashion fabric on the bias. Now that the corset itself was complete, it was time for the decoration. I used a small gift box top to make the silver heart that goes over the stomach. I drilled holes in the sides so I could slide the arrows through. I rhinestoned the entire box and painted the arrows. I then took to rhinestoning the entire corset. I used a combination of siam, dark siam, and rose crystals. Siam was the majority, while I sprinkled the dark siam and rose throughout. This gives the whole corset a lot more depth as opposed to using just one color. I used E6000 Fabrifuse to glue each individual rhinestone in place. This glue was made to work on fabric and is flexible with the garment. Last was adhering the heart box to the stomach using the same glue. I'd say this was a successful piece. I was able to hone my pattern making and construction skills when making the corset body. The crystals left me flex some design creativity.

Beautiful piece, I love the vintagey feel of the images, it really puts the piece in context. And what an impressive amount of rhinestoneing.
