Outline the story …

The title is "The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter", by Theodora Goss. The daughter of Dr. Jeckle is trying to solve a mystery, along the way she meets Sherlock Holmes, and the daughters of Mr Hide, and Dr Rappaccini, together they try to bring a murderer to justice and find that their fathers belong to a secret organization that was doing tests on children. The character I chose for the contest is Beatrice Rappaccini, Beatrice was raised tending poisonous plants, as a result of this she became poisonous, she can kill small animals just by breathing on them or by touching them. I was inspired by Beatrice because even though she couldn't touch other people she still had good friend ships and a good attitude.

Outline the construction…

The construction of my entry was a lot like my craft room, cluttered and unorganized lol. I made some sketches, and searched my stash and was able to use materials that I already had at home. The corset is made from white duck cloth and is lined with two tone white cotton I had left over from making a skirt the corset flossing was done with embroidery thread. Following the beginners path to success helped me understand that pressing each seam is important, and to not skip steps, one of the obstacles in my path was every time I tried to google "grecian dress" it would send me to ancient Greece, and that's waaay to far back. The story takes place in London in 1899, and the description says she was beautiful, dressed in white, her dress was in the Grecian style leaving her neck and arms bare. So I felt she would have been wearing clothes from London that had a Grecian flair. So I started with the corset and it turned out fabulous :)

A pretty corset and I love the colour you chose for the flossing. I’ve recently tried flossing a corset for the first time and mine doesn’t look anywhere near as neat as this.

thank you, this was my first one. I had so much fun making it. I practiced the flossing on a sampler first. I tried to incorporate the plants from the book in the color of the flossing.

thank you, I found a video on you tube for the flossing, and I practiced on a sampler of the same fabrics.

I really like this! The corset looks comfy and I utterly adore that you were inspired by the plants and tied that in with her character. Those little details lay me! Beautiful work, thank you for sharing!
