Outline the story …

I was born in Wilmington, North Carolina a place rich with pirate history and legends. I grew up Romanianizing about being a pirate and setting across the ocean with canvas sails taking me to distant shores. My favorite pirate was Anne Bonny who dominated in a historically male occupation. Her ferocious tenacity inspired me to craft the Hollywood depiction of her costume in the popular series Black Sails.

Outline the construction…

I wanted to get the costume close to accurate as I could. The embroidery took the longest to complete taking over 150 hours using silk embroidery thread and I hand dyed embroidery fabric. I used tea bags to age the lining fabric from a clean white to a dingy pirate tan. Another challenge I faced was fitting a man's coat pattern to a 5-foot-tall woman's size and then alter the design to fit her costume.

I really like what you did. That is an amazing amount of work in the embroidery. I would be wearing that coat any time it got cold! It deserves to be ‘out and about’.

That embroidery is so impressive, I love everything about that jacket is so beautifully made. Big love for your pirate fantasy here.

The dedication to detail is admirable. The diffent textures play well together and really sells the priate vibe without looking haggard and worn.

That embroidery must have taken a long time.

The coat looks just like something a real pirate might have worn.
