Nótt
Outline the story …
Nótt is the Norse goddess of the Night. She married 3 times and has 1 children from each marriage (she is Thor's Grandmother). She appears in the Prose and poetic "Edda from Snorri" (in the "Prose Edda" book Gylfaginning, Nótt is again personified in chapter 10). She is descriped as "black and dark/swarty", but I imagined her in a very dark blue chemise dress. I am really proud that I actually finished that dress completly and did not leave it in the box of shame like most of my projects if something does not go out as I hoped so.
Outline the construction…
I wanted to create a light, slightly transparent dress. I associate the Night as dark blue and not black, and was very happy that I found the perfect fabric for it. Which was just awful to sew. It is a synthetic chiffon which was very slippery, so I had to unsew and resew a lot of seams again. Also the fabric liked to fray a lot, and it took me quite a while to find a good method to finish the seams and make it (mostly) stop fraying. I doubled the borders and used a zigzag stitch at the "bending point", and handstitched the cuffs and neckline.
I used a Vintage pattern from the 70s : The breezy dress from retro pattern archive.
A lovely, delicate, dress and beautifully finished. Very nice indeed.
It looks so effortless. So pretty
Tiny stitches!! They’re so lovely, they put a smile on my face. Great job♡
You’re right, that type of fabric can be soooo finicky to work with! You’ve done a lovely job, and I do love your colour choice.
Such perfect little gathers! I love the matte crepe-y look and none of your struggles are remotely visible. Beaut!
Super cute dress! I feel your pain working with the chiffon, but you did an amazing job 🥰 Well done!
