Mermaid Queen In The Forest
Outline the story …
With “the Natural world” as inspiration, my mind immediately went under water since the sea is my favorite place to be I might have gone too far under since I immediately went to mermaid with this regency wrapping front blue dress with ruffles like the waves in the sea. My concept is "Mermaid Queen in the Forest". The Mermaid Queen has come out of the sea to experience land and arrived in the forest. With the sun quickly setting, she must survey her surroundings before needing to return to her underwater kingdom.
Outline the construction…
This dress represents many firsts for me. First dress I finished with sleeves. First time putting in sleeves. First time sewing with slipperier fabric. First time putting ruffles on a neckline and sleeves. First time fitting multiple parts of my body. The pattern I used was the Laughing Moon 130 for the dress. I was inspired by a photo I saw of the dress in pink with ruffles on Laughing Moon’s website. My version of the dress was sewn from blue poly satin fabric by machine by me. I had two main resources. The first resource is my wonderful sewing teacher, Lauren Schmidt who helped me to fit the mockup to my body and to keep me on track as well as gave me advice on the intricate bits that I hadn't done before. The second resource were the monthly coaching calls with Lowana and Brooklynne that kept me motivated to finish the competition.
Very nice!! Blue is my favorite color!!
Love the ruffling detail around the cuffs and the collar!
This is STUNNING! So regal! The colour is gorgeous, and I love the simplicity of the silhouette – it’s so dramatic.
