Journey to Hagenheim
Outline the story …
The story that inspired my look is a book called "The Healer's Apprentice" by Melanie Dickerson. The story follows a young healer's apprentice named Rose, she works for Frau Geruscha, the kingdom of Hegenheim's healer.
Rose has been appointed to be a healer's apprentice under Frau Geruscha, which is a very rare opportunity for a woodcutter's daughter like her. There's only one problem: she is very squeamish around blood, but she will not let it hold her back. Failure as a healer's apprentice means returning home to marry an old bachelor her mother has chosen for her, who makes Rose's stomach churn.
When Lord Hamlin sustains an injury from a boar attack, Rose is the one who must tend to him. As time passes, the two begin to grow close. Rose starts to feel something for the young Duke and wonders if he feels the same, but love between them is forbidden, for Lord Hamlin is already betrothed to Lady Salomea, who has been in hiding due to the evil conjuror Moncore swearing to get revenge on her family through her.
Love, mystery, and intrigue intertwine in this wonderful retelling of Sleeping Beauty.
Outline the construction…
My skirt is made out of a polyester/satin blend material, which once belonged to my grandmother.
I did a mixture of machine and hand sewing.
I learned how to gather, how to sew pleats, how to sew a placket, how to sew on lace, and how to sew on snaps.
I hand sewed on the lace and the snaps.
The most challenging aspect of this project I'd have to say was gathering, and sewing on the lace.
The resources that helped me the most would have to be my sewing machine, pins, and my amazing friend/teacher.
Fantastic accomplishment. I hope it’s the start of a fulfilling sewing journey for you. Good luck x
Congratulation for your entry. As you said, every project is an occasion to grow new skills.
Lovely skirt. I love how the lace creates a long line across the front. And congratulations on entering and improving your skills!
Skirt looks good, the decoration is placed beautiful.
Love the details !
The lace detail is awesome! I love how the garment balances structure and flowy-ness. Amazing job!
Satin is a hard fabric for a new sewist, good job! That lace is lovely and applied beautifully!
What a lovely fairy-tale gown! I love the ivory lace against the dramatic rich red.
How beautiful. You did a wonderful job! Learning new skills and then showing them off to the World is scary, but me thinks gathers are scarier! Thank you!
Yaaay you did such a beautiful job! I’m so proud of you for challenging yourself with this project. It turned out wonderful and it has a lovely regal quality to it! (From, your BFF)
