Into a Golden Age
Outline the story …
I was so excited about creating something for the theme of 'Into Another World' that I became overwhelmed with all the possibilities.
All the ideas that inspired me seemed so beyond my capabilities but I was captured by the idea of 'A Golden Age' and reminded myself that it is often through the greatest challenges that we make the most progress. With this thought in mind I took the opportunity to create something ambitious and try techniques for the first time. Whatever the outcome I knew I would make progress just by taking the first step into the unknown.
I was inspired by the idea of human expansion and imagery from history but also with the spirit of always looking to the future and exploration. The idea that the darkest times have often preceded the ages of enlightenment and growth - I think this is true throughout history but I have even noticed it in a small way in my own creative endeavours!
With large amounts of blue velvet fabric left over from making a walking skirt I decided to use this to create something that would harken back to historical styles but also allow the creative freedom to design something completely unique from scratch.
I endeavored to make my own pattern for a coat and finally create a corset from the sea of failed toiles that have accumulated without success...
Outline the construction…
Coat:
Cotton upholstry velvet.
Synthetic horsehair canvas for pad stitching the collar.
Corset:
Cotton upholstry velvet.
Coutil.
Varous cotton and rayon threads.
Braided electrical wire.
Gorgeous blue, I love the contrast you have in the corset with the blue and golden. And the jacket is beautiful, looks like it twirls well 🙂
Thank you, I appreciate your positive words so much!
Gorgeous fabric and colour, and the design feels so timeless! It’s well fitted and finished – congratulations!
Thank you for that, I can’t tell you what encouraging words those are!
Well done on pushing yourself to try something new. I love the rich colour you chose for your garments, and the pad stitching is so well done.
You have created a beautiful and wearable clothing!
