Outline the story …
Reading the theme of the competition on nature, the first image that came to my mind was that of autumn leaves on a sidewalk.I like autumn days when, walking under the umbrella, the wet concrete reflects the light between one leaf and another.
Outline the construction…
I decided to make a corset inspired by the early twentieth century (1918/20).
Using a gray boiled wool fabric, I hand-applied some leaves embroidered with shaded wool on tulle.
The backe closure is made with a zip on the center back of the skirt to bring it to size, and is hidden by an internal box pleat.
The bodice is closed with metal buckles.
Every time I make a corset I end up adding new types of workmanship such as, in this case, the use of straight thread ribbons to keep the corset fabric in shape and make it adhere further to the body.
I based the construction of the pattern on the information found in " Thornton's International System ", which I was able to consult on the Archive.org site.
I love the idea of a corset & skirt combined. Lovely design!
