Anne in Blue
Outline the story …
I decided get my inspiration from Anne Shirley Cuthbert, from Anne of Green Gable ( Lucy Maud Montgomery. Anne lived in Canada (PEI) at the end of the 19th century (around 1875). She dreams of silk and puffy sleeves, but only gets plain brown dresses. So I tried to find a pattern that looks like 19th century ( high collar and slightly puffy sleeves, as well at the length for a teenager) but that could be worn nowadays going for groceries. I used plain cotton but in 2 shades of blue and with cream white band to make is a little more interesting.
Outline the construction…
For the bodice I used a Burda pattern, the dress 103 from 12/2020, I had to fit the sleeves as the pattern was made for more stretch fabric, and as it was it wasn't possible to move, I would have love to make a button for the closing at the back but this is, for now, beyond my knowledge. The zipper wasn't easier as it isn't fully invisible, if I have the opportunity to change it later I will do it!
The skirt part I "improvised", I wanted pleats and to have a go on blind tucks as I find it really nice, maybe girly and it brought structure to to bottom of the skirt.
This is very sweet and practical, you should be proud of your creation and continue in your progress! Congrats
I love it ! I recognised the character as soon as I saw it !
Great job !
Great job- the neatness makes me envious in the best way! Love it.
Awesome!!! Anne of Green Gables is one of my favourite stories. I LOVE the pleats, they came out fabulous. And the tucks are delightful.
I like this interpretation for Anne. Very nice dress! Well done.
Very neat! And the colors are wonderful❤
I love the dress. It really fits Anne and still feels modern
This is exactly what I would picture Anne would wear. This is my daughters favorite series. Excellent and clean sewing.
I adore Anne and you brought her to life beautifully!
Nicely done, very smart and practical! I love this. Thank you!
Really pretty and beautifully finished! I would totally wear this to do groceries, and I can definitely see Anne wearing this too! Well done!
This is a beautiful dress. So understated from a distance and then as you get closer you see all the details. I love it – particularly the cream edging on the waist band and those pintucks! Sooo straight. Well done.
Those pleats are so amazing!
