Outline the story …

I chose to make a cape because Capes! and used the Winterberry Cape Pattern from Mood Fabrics.
I was inspired to represent different forms of water, source of life on our planet. On one side of the cape, I made several snowflakes blowing in the breeze to represent the solid form of water: ice. On the other side is the liquid form, cascading down my shoulder. The thin white stripes are an homage to a painting of Hokusai where he represented water the same way.
I also selected the rabbit for my clasp and the lining since it represents fertility, spring (and life by extension). Lucky coincidence, this lunar year is the year of the rabbit so it is all the more fitting to have chosen it.
On the inside, I added a pocket to the lining because Pockets!

Outline the construction…

I made the cape with wool as the outer layer and cotton for the lining.
I tried my hand for the tirst time at pad stitching the collar with horsehair following Barbara Peisendorfer's tutorial on one of Bernadette Banner's videos. The collar is also reinforced with a layer of cotton canvas to protect me from the horsehair.
All the embellishments are made with beads since beading is my main hobby.
The snowflakes have a bezeled Swarovski rivoli crystal in the center.
The stripes are made with white seedbeads stitched using the St Petersburg stitch. The main one on the side seam is outlined by phosphorescent beads.
Sewing the clasp was a challenge since i had never sewn one before but my attempt at a buttonhole stitch seems to be strong enough and not going anywhere soon so it is okay for me, for now.

A really wonderful take on water, with the ice crystals and the waterfall over your shoulder. Hats off for that pad stiching. I also love that you included your beadwork and , of course, POCKETS!

It is lovely work and I love that it is easy to manage whether riding a bike or grocery shopping. Capelets look so much better with a skirt than a ponch or car coat. Great beading also!
