FOUNDATIONS REVEALED COMPETITION ENTRY

Outline the story …
I not so long ago moved to France and while I’m still learning French, Ose la Petite Robe Rouge, was the 1st book I managed to read in French and so I decided to make my 1st dress from this book too. Jenna, the main character, is encouraged to step out of her comfort zone, out of the shadows and wear the red dress, and so I thought I would step out of my comfort zone and sew and create a red dress, step out of the shadows and enter the competition. The dress is not the same as in the book, but thought I would add my own interpretation and make something that I myself would love to wear.
Outline the construction…
Sewing machine and a borrowed overlocker, both from Adli. My fabric is a cotton brought for 5 euros from a second hand shop, and the lining is a stretch viscose brought online. The pattern is free online at Sewmeg.com.
I followed the pattern as best as I could, but I decided to add the skirt lining so it would feel nicer on my legs. I also used the overlocker to finish the seams. The lining was stretching so I hand sewed the darts in the lining. From watching numerous YouTube videos, I decided to stay stitch and under stitch the neck line to stop it from stretching and to keep the lining from peeping out. I gathered the skirt and tried to match up the seams and darts on the bodice, and tacked the bodice and the skirt together before using the machine. I thought the dress looked a little boring, so I decided to try embroidery for the 1st time and added the flowers on the front. When adding the zip I was careful to match up the waist seem and tacked the fashion fabric 1st and then the lining before sewing the zip in with the machine. I hand sewed the lining from the bodice to the skirt lining at the waist, trying to catch the seam allowance at the waist.
You’d never know you were a beginner to sewing and embroidery. It’s a lovely dress, I’d wear it in a heartbeat. Best of luck x
