Outline the story …

Once upon a time in a not-so-far land, a fairy Godmother was surprised in her workroom.

She is the fairy who comes and help Cinderella in the tales collection "Contes de ma mère l'Oye, histoires ou contes des temps passés" by Charles Perrault.

Little is known about her, just that she is able to turn mice into horses, lizards into lackeys, and a pumpkin into a carriage.

So, I imagine the secret for her magic is sewing. She is a sewcialist !

She is able to bring the craziest dream outfits to life in no time.

But right now, she's busy preparing the miniature carriage that she'll hide under her bustle. All that remains is to enlarge it at the right time to succeed in giving the illusion of transforming a pumpkin into an impressive carriage.

And yes, sometimes great Magic needs a little help !

Outline the construction…

Sewing is the most beautiful of magic!
I like to go from an idea to a concrete project. The Fairy Godmother has been on my mind for years, so this competition was an opportunity to start bringing it to life.
I wanted to honour the calico and the denim canvas as symbols of the life cycle of a garment.
The calico is at the start of the process, used to materialize a designer's idea, it rarely shows up, its life stop when the retouching is validated.
Denim represents the end of the cycle, and finds a second life when it is upcycled like here.
The bodice is a denim on calico patchwork from a Truly Victorian pattern I modified.
I patterned last year the bustle under the skirt in calico and tulle pleated. This one is patterned from a petticoat in the book Fashion of Gilded Age.

The silhouette of this is amazing! And the fall of the skirt together with the pleats is so beautiful. Absolutely love the dips of the bodice as well.
