Outline the story …

I have loved Angela the Herbalist from the Eragon book series ever since I first read the series. I was grateful to have a reason to bring her to life. I knew she would need to be dressed well enough to be respected as a shop keeper. Yet comfortable enough to travel well, be able to harvest herbs and take on whatever adventures came her way.

Outline the construction…

I made the shirt/chemise from an old bed sheet. I was originally going to make a peasant top but didn't like the look. Fortunately I had enough left to make a chemise. I used embroidery floss to make the button hole that the string ties through at the neck. The skirt was made with 5 yards of synthetic linen. I didn't have a pattern so I just pleated 2 inch pleats on my dress form. Starting at the center front. I wanted more fullness in the back so those pleats run 2 inches then to center back 2 more inches then to center back all the way to the center back seam. I wanted the drapey flowing portion to pop so I stitched the leaf trim on. The apron was made with a piece of scrap upholstery fabric someone gave me a year or so ago. I just draped it on my dress form added some pleats. Sewed down to a piece of cotton twill tape that was also used as the ties.

Your design choices suit the description of your character. What a great fabric print to have on hand for the apron of an herbalist! Simple and effective. Very nice.

Love those books and her character! I can see her wearing something like this! Very nice! And well, herbs and gardening also speak to me, so there is that side of me that finds this tempting gardening wear!!

Lovely! I can see you out in the herb beds and in the simples room. 🙂 I love the detail on the back of the skirt. As an herbalist myself, I would gleefully wear such an outfit.
