Nine Fingers to Go
Outline the story …
The character that inspired this piece is Logen Ninefingers, from Joe Abercrombies trilogy "First Law". He is a Northman who spent most of his life fighting in wars and duels. The finger that he is missing (and which gave him nis name) is the middle one on his left hand. It was lost in one of the battles that Logen was in. Gauntlets are designed in such a way that the missing finger is covered, while others are "naked".
Outline the construction…
Almost every step I had to look up on internet, mostly YouTube. First I covered my hands in flextape and drew with sharpie where seams will be. Then I cut it with scissors. Then I ripped it of my skin. I used the pattern to draw pieces on an old curtain. I cut them up and put it together. This is when I realised that I never washed the fabric. It was too late so I rubbed yellow chalk out best I could. It was time to try the gauntlets. I couldn't put my hand in. I cut it in two pieces. Still couldn't put my hands in. I opened it up and closed with wool. First I made small ropes but they were too big for holes so now they are in box with materials. While fitting the gloves I realised that I should have used running stitch instead of back stitch. Then I took care of holes for wool and edge of gauntlet by copying something from YouTube (I don't know name of that) and I added fur taken off my old jacket. It is now that I found out there is tool for taking out stitches. Also there was not enough fur. I bought more. It was drasticly different. Nice adition for the box of materials. Another jacket of mine that had more similar fur was shaven. But that piece was now wrong shade and shape. I improvised a haircut and colored fur with watercolors. There were more problems, but enough for now.
These are so cool! Well done
Sounds like your journey with this project was as challenging as your chosen character’s adventures probably were. Well done!
It’s a great idea ! And those look so cool, congratulations !
Oh my goodness, they are amazing. And look at the button hole stitching. Gorgeously delicious!!
This seems like a lot of work! Glad you could finish it so we can all appreciate it!
Keep solving problems and you get there! These look great, and tell your story almost better than they would if everything had gone as planned.
I really think you did super well with these gloves . Gloves are super hard to make and they look awesome ! Really like the concept and how you taught yourself along the way , The turned out tops. Congratulations on your entry .:)
Logan would be proud of the tenacity you showed in finishing these gloves! And in that they look like they’re flipping is the bird when they’re off you! Good job!
Very well done! I like your interpretation. Very imaginative! Thank you!
It sounds as if you have had a Logan style journey yourself! Excellent problem solving as you went along though and the finished gauntlets are fierce!
These are so cool! I love the first law books 😀
