Outline the story …
The story of the valiant little tailor comes from Grimms Fairy Tales (https://tinyurl.com/6vfansjy ). The valiant little tailor is a simple and diligent working one who makes a believe in himself and his power. The tailor throws himself into a venturous world and overcomes all obstacles along the way with creativity and courage. Convincing is the mindset of the tailor: just do it!
One morning a little tailor was sitting on his table by a window and was in good spirits and sewed with all his might. Then came a woman with the FR-Competition announcement. The tailor inspected it and said: “The announcement seems to me to be good”! I will just finish the jacket, sewed on and in joy made bigger and bigger stitches.
The smell of the announcement rose and great numbers were attracted. The little tailor drew a piece of cloth from the whole under his work table and saying: “Wait, and I will give to you my jacket”!
“Are you a fellow of this sort”? said the little tailor and could not help admiring the own bravery. “The whole town shall know of this”! And the little tailor hastened to cut himself a girdle (and a jacket), stitched it and embroidered it a large letter: seven!
Outline the construction…
Likely the valiant little tailor is sewing his waistcoat in the finest fabric, I decided to celebrate this stunning craftsmanship in making the jacket out of an original Harris Tweed. I sewed the jacket beside the center back, shoulder and side seams with my bare hands like a good tailor would do. I sewed the skirt in by hand with felling stitches, collar and cuffs are faced with cashmere scraps and even so is the lining puzzled together and at some places pieced together and sewn in by hand with felling stitches. I fitted the front with scraps of canvas and cotton wadding to give it a little bit more shape in the front. For the closures I decided for snaps. The jacket is finished with decorative silvery buttons.
It was such a fun journey and I learned a lot from this project. Especially that its little that you need at hand to accomplish a challenge; like the valiant little tailor accomplished his challenges just with trust and a little bit of creativity. You just have to trust in your skills you and make the best out of the supplies that are already by your side and make sure that you always keep learning and improving. Maybe I made something entirely wrong but I found the construction of the jacket very intuitive and I learned the instruction in POF1 by heart. There are a few things that could be neater or at least more historically accurate.

I didn’t know this Grimm Fairy Tale… it’s so lovely! That’s sure it’s a guide for us, poor eternal apprentice tailors and dressmakers we are!

For my part, I think you accomplished this challenge, not only “with trust and a little bit of creativity” but also with a lot of virtuosity, patience and perseverance! You could finish it, a so complex and high quality project, that’s the greatest victory, and as you said, you learned so much making this, and that’s the greatest award! I must admit in the beginning I thought hopefully this would will all work out. I’m glad I participated. I learned so much about my own sewing habits and even improved. As you said that’s probably the real victory 😊
