Flowery Mad Hatter
Outline the story …
I have always loved the story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. The fact she goes in a world where everything is possible is a thing it make me dream.
So for my version of the mad hatter I wanted to make something that reflect more what I will find in my wonderland.
Most of the inspiration was for flowers and steampunk
Outline the construction…
I began with the vest, made from a wool fabric for the main pieces, cotton for the lining and synthetic fabric for the lapels, I drafted the pattern from a book, luckily it fit well just at the first try, but I had some problems with the interfacing of the lapel. I didn't have the right material so I had used some heavy fabric, machine sewing it into place. After that was easy to put everything together (just time consuming to hand sew all the decoration on).
The tailcoat is made all of black wool and the brown wool (cause I didn't have enough fabric to make the tail oops). This time I have draped the pieces on my dress form before making the pattern and cut the wool, and realized I have to make something for the tails.
I have cut strip of the brown wool, crocheted a trim of gold cotton, and sewn the strips with a criss-cross pattern.
The only thing I can say for the sleeves , they were a nightmare this time, but they turned out fine.
I love the bobbins and pin cushion on the hat!!
This is so wonderfully whimsical and over the top. Love it.
So many details into this outfit! You can easily see the hard work that went into it, great job♡
Vest is very provocative and intriguing. I love it!
Not many interpretations of the mad hatter include so many flowers, but it’s such a great addition to his character! You really captured his quirky nature, and I think the colour scheme really suits him! Well done!
Thanks for including the pictures of your detailed work. The embellishments on your back seam and collar are impressive. Great Job!!
