Outline the story …

Entry inspired by The Mad Hatter from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by C. S. Lewis.

Before the pandemic, before the end of the world, so last year, this costume was created. At the beginning it was created for a festival with the theme Alice in Wonderland. The event was cancelled, but the costume had been created.

I choose the Mad Hatter because of my fabric stash, in it I have a lot of colorful fabric waiting to be used, and what a better choice to be, that a multicolor Mad Hatter.

After looking at numerous pictures of different Mad Hatter's on the internet, I choose what I like best in each and I created my own. I spot the elements that made the Mad Hatter, like the hat, vest, jacket, cravat, sock etc.

I began to gather the different fabric. The multiple texture seems to me an excellent fit for the character.

Outline the construction…

Next, came the time for the pattern, the most difficult was the vest (0220 black snail 1890 lady vest) because it has a lot of pieces for the lining. I had to sew the hole for the arm by hand.

The hat (flared top hat by Chris Huebert) was a challenge, it made me discover a new technique, using a new medium other than fabric. I found a yoga mat, which I cut, glued and painted. I will do another for sure.

The vest and jacket (simplicity 2525) are all lined, and also have a chemise and large pants. This costume is the most fantasy that I have made. I have fun and let my imagination run free.

Magnificent! Such joy in this. Yoga mat hat!!! The jacket and vest are really quite well done and the juxtaposition of colors and textures shows you have a refined eye. Are those fabric covered buttons on the vest? Gorgeous work.

I love all these colours and textures for the mad hatter, and the embroidery is so pretty! You created his character perfectly! Also I never knew you could make a hat out of a yoga mat… maybe you will start a trend!
