Outline the story …

Once upon a time has a huge selection, after finding old costume designs from my youth I discovered some Sleeping Beauty Designs I had sketched. I was completely inspired by the idea of dress that had aged over the years she slept. As fabric fades after a while. I went into research mood, discovering that the first book of "Sleeping Beauty" was published in 1528 and in France. The fashion was still quite Renaissance (which I have always loved) so it was easy for me to create my own version of that style.

I love that Sleeping Beauty has been recreated ever since with some stunning illustrations of this Renaissance beauty in a bed of roses and mother nature taking over.

I was able to use some of the fabric I had in my own stock like a stunning royal purple velvet that was perfectly Medieval. I had some cream silks and velvets that would be wonderful but I hit the jackpot when I found the most perfect embroidered lace that had Trees of it on Ebay of all places. It was brilliant as it is symbolic of the forest that grew around her. I was on my way to true creating a Fairy Tale Renaissance Costume.

Outline the construction…

I was able to use some of the fabric I had in my own stock like a stunning royal purple velvet that was perfectly Medieval. I had some cream silks and velvets that would be wonderful but I hit the jackpot when I found the most perfect embroidered lace that had trees on it on Ebay of all places. It was brilliant as it is symbolic of the forest that grew around her. I was on my way to true creating a Fairy Tale Renaissance Costume. I was so thankful I had alot of the fabrics but I needed some rich velvet and the stunning whimsical lace I had found to be the top fabric for the dress I had a pattern that was similar to the design, I was able to use it as a basic and changed the process as I went along, e.g joining the top and skirt together. I started with the velvet as a base, I knew the skirt was going to showcase the tree lace.
