Outline the story …

I am submitting a Sith costume inspired by the infamous Dracula. Dracula, originally in the novel by Brahm Stoker is a vampire that comes from Transylvania who fools Jonathan Harker into his castle for legal estate advice. He then goes to England and terrorizes Jonathan's fiancé, and other close relations before fleeing back to Transylvania where he was slain. The inspiration of the design was following the guidelines of saber guild, and then drawing upon aspects of contemporary fashion of when the book was released in 1897, using The Keystone Jacket and Dress Cutter: an 1895 Guide to Women's Tailoring as a primary source. The only description of his clothing was all black, hence the use of a Black cape and outer jacket roughly inspired by the Eton Jacket. The heavy use of red was in reference to the fact he drank blood. The underskirt and all the collars were direct patterns from Keystone. The inner tunic was a basic button up with bell sleeves. The outer tunic was a basic bodice with a a-line in the front and a circle skirt in the back, and using the obi to cinch at the waist to provide the wasp waist silhouette at the time. Due to that name of the silhouette, and Dracula's animal transformations, I leaned into the more nature inspired wasp design, hence the pointed back of the jacket and the pointed tabards and topstitching designs on the tabards.

Outline the construction…

Drafted a bell skirt (The “Keystone” Jacket and Dress Cutter An 1895 Guide to Women’s Tailoring pg82-83) with godets, Bolero for the sir coat front (pg28), and the collars (pg72). Drafted high collar torso and sleeve sloper (Patternmaking for Menswear Classic to Contemporary pg21-29, pg70), with curved out bell sleeves. The outer tunic was modified suite jacket sloper (pg290) with a kimono front, with A-line in the front with an opening, and circle skirt in the back with side vents (pg357), and then sketched the back for the sir coat, obi, tabards, and hood (The “Standard” Work on Cutting Ladies Tailor Made Garments pg120). Half-circle cape. The skirt, undertunic, and outer tunic lining was red linen. The outer tunic, and sir coat and cape lining is a red twill cotton. The sir coat and cape is coal sharkskin wool. French seamed, double hemmed the skirt and under tunic. Bag lined the outer tunic, sir coat, and cape. Top stitched the waist band, collar of the skirt, undertunic, obi, and tabard designs. Tube method for the obi and tabard. Whip stitched the sir coat, cape collar, sleeve holes, inner tabard, outer tunic vents and bottom hem (Authentic Victorian Dressmaking Techniques pg98). The belt was leather dyed black, punched in rivets for the outer belt, and a snap for the back cover. Bought a belt buckle, shaved the ends of the inner belt and punched in screws to make the two loops. Bought the leather pouch, lightsaber, lightsaber clip, and boots.
